CHARACTER FACTS
» Name: Tsubaki Nakatsukasa
» Canon: Soul Eater
» Reference: http://souleater.wikia.com/wiki/Tsubaki_Nakatsukasa
» Canon Point: End of 109
» Gender: Female
» Age: 18 – this is technically headcanon, but also very, very likely. It’s stated in canon that she is 2 or 3 years older than Maka, Soul and Black*Star, who are rumored to be about 14-15 when the series begins (for example, Black*Star mentions that he was just a child when his parents were killed 13 years ago near the beginning of the series), and have also gone through a time skip in the manga, after which they looked physically older.
CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
» Appearance: Tsubaki is an attractive young woman of Japanese descent with dark blue eyes and incredibly long black hair that she almost always has tied up into a high ponytail. She’s thin and athletic, but is also very well endowed and curvy. She is also rather tall for a girl, standing at about 5’7” or so.
» Suitability: Tsubaki is more than capable of remaining cool and calm in difficult, stressful and dangerous situations, so the dragged out process of needing to take care of a collar to save her life would not be a difficult thing for her to deal with. She’s a generally trusting individual, and would be willing to put her safety in the hands of someone else in order to loosen her collar, and it helps that she also had trustworthy friends in Atia already. It’s also canon that she’s actually a very sexually frustrated individual, as she was the last person to change back to her proper gender in the book of eibon, and though she was embarrassed about it, it was impossible for her to deny it. Once she gets past all the blushing and general embarrassment over the sexual nature of the island, she would actually be able to really enjoy it, as it’s something she’s interested in and has had to repress in canon.
» Orientation: While Tsubaki has no confirmed canon relationships, some kind of romantic connection is hinted at between her and Black*Star, as they share a bedroom. They’ve lived together for quite some time, as most meister/weapon pairs do. In addition, during their time in the Lust Chapter of the Book of Eibon, each character changed genders and gained the appearances of what they found desirable in the opposite sex. Tsubaki changed into a very masculine and tall man, which features similar to her brother and Black*Star. Because of this, I would say that Tsubaki identifies as straight.
» Personality
Of all of the Soul Eater characters, Tsubaki is generally the quietest. She’s the polar opposite of her Meister, Black*Star, who is loud, brash, and attention-seeking. In completely contrast, Tsubaki is quiet, keeps to herself, doesn’t boast, and is easily the most mature of the main cast of characters. She doesn’t speak often, but when she does she generally has something important or wise to say, and is often the one trying to mediate arguments between the characters. This makes sense, as all of the members of their group are teenagers, and Tsubaki is likely to be the oldest (only Liz Is likely close in age to her).
As such, Tsubaki takes on the role of older sister or even the mother role in the group. She worries the most when someone is in danger, and is happier to see that everyone is safe rather than successful in their missions. While she is a very determined individual, and she does very much want to become a Death Scythe, she cares much more about the safety of her friends and making sure that everyone gets out, and is not against retreat if necessary. (Not that Black*Star is likely to retreat under any circumstance, and Black*Star’s wishes always come first, as her Meister.)
Tsubaki is from a close-knit Japanese family, whom she visits on occasion, though there was some difficulties with her brother growing up. Tsubaki herself idolized him, while her brother Masamune found himself jealous and angry toward his sister. Tsubaki’s family has the rare ability to pass down weapon forms; while most weapons can only change into one thing, Tsubaki has the ability to turn into many different ninja weapons, such as kusarigama , smoke bombs, ninja stars, and more. Originally, her brother was supposed to inherit all of his family’s forms, and instead on received the Uncanny Sword, while his sister received everything else. Growing up, Tsubaki loved her brother and would follow him around, constantly agree with him, and try to make up for the fact that she’d inherited the forms, which only irritated her brother because he felt as if she were mocking. When her brother turned dark, and let his soul be contaminated by hate and murder, Tsubaki took it upon herself to defeat her brother and claim his soul back.
This was a difficult moment in her life for her, and it was the reason she enrolled in the academy at all, and thus the reason she met Black*Star and all of her friends. Her devotion to her family drove her to make these decisions, and her devotion to her friends and what they believe in cause her to continue down this path. She even apologizes to Black*Star for using him to get at her brother, but he barely even bats an eye. By that point, they’re a team, and they constantly prove how much they value another during battle and in everyday life.
Tsubaki is also an incredibly generous person. She looks out for others before herself, and often does things like cook dinner for everyone, and it’s established that she’s a very good cook, especially in Japanese dishes. She considers Maka to be her best friend, despite the age difference, and Tsubaki often looks up to the younger girl because of her leadership and bravery. They complement each other well, as Tsubaki is able to calm the other girl down when she loses her temper, and is often her voice of reason, while Maka makes Tsubaki want to continue to work her and strive to be the best she can, and even speak out when necessary.
In general, Tsubaki is a warm-hearted, gentle soul with a quiet voice and an adaptable personality. It’s stated in canon that she is the only Weapon that could resonate with Black*Star because of her very malleable and welcoming soul, and it shows in the way she easily makes friends and gets along with everyone.

[Tsubaki appears on the screen seated on her couch, her expression slightly embarrassed with her hands clasped together in her lap. She tries not to fidget, but she has difficulty looking directly at the screen as she speaks.]
Hello, my name is Tsubaki, and I was just wondering if…
[She pauses, a slight tinge of pink coloring her cheeks. She’s actually excited inside to be asking this, something that she would never admit aloud. The idea of being intimate with someone new is…strange and somewhat exhilarating, and also apparently normal here on this strange island.]
I will need to loosen my collar in the next few days, so I was wondering if anyone else needed to do the same. I do not want it to get too tight, after all, and would be happy to help out someone else in a similar situation.
[She smiles, finally allowing her eyes to meet the camera before she dips her head and torso into a deep bow, despite the awkwardness of it while seated on a couch cushion.]
Thank you very much. I hope to hear from some of you soon.
» Third Person Sample Choice: Prompt Two
Tsubaki curled up into the sheets as her partner drifted to sleep quietly beside her. She wasn’t tired, not after what had just happened, and she wanted to silently reflect on the experience, alone in the quiet of the room.
She’d been a virgin when she’d woken up this morning, and now she wasn’t. And perhaps she should have been sad at the loss of it, but she couldn’t bring herself to feel it. Sex was something she’d thought about quite often in the last couple of years, but the timing had never been right, and there’d never been that person. Fate had forced her hand on this issue, it seemed, but it had been everything she’d thought it would be.
Fun, exciting, thrilling. Tsubaki was one that was always in control of herself, of her thoughts and feelings, usually keeping to herself within her bubble of friends. But this, this was a true loss of control, to just be and to just feel, to give herself over to something completely outside of herself.
And while she didn’t mind returning back to who she usually was, it had been so nice to let go, if only for an hour, and the idea that she would not only get to, but need to do this again? She didn’t want to resist. It didn’t make sense to, because it didn’t feel like she was doing anything wrong. This was the way things were here, and she felt like she could fit in, and maybe even break out of her shell a little bit.
And so when she finally finished coming down, and exhaustion began to overtake her, Tsubaki fell asleep with a smile.
